South-West Pfalz is a district (Kreis or more precise Landkreis) situated in the south of Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. It Neighbors France in the south. Its total area is 953.76 km2 with a population of over 96,000 people. It consists of 7 large communities and 84 towns. The forest area of South-West Pfalz accounts for one-third of the Palatinate Natural Forest Conservation Park. The Palatinate forest area is the largest in Germany. The administrative office of the South-West Pfalz District is located in Pirmasens.
Industry, a large number of handicrafts enterprises, and some small businesses in the IT sector constitute the economic structures of South-East Pfalz District. Here, the traditional and modern industry coexist and integrate as a whole. Twenty-six professional shoe stores and more than one million pairs of different styles of shoes attract tourists from all over the country and even overseas. In Pirmasens, you can also find the oldest shoe factory in Germany - Peter Kaiser. Inspired by high quality and craftsmanship, this 178-year-old shoe factory insists on producing in Germany. Tourism in South-West Pfalz District is also thriving. The rich natural landscapes such as the Pfalz Forest, Dragen Rock and Bussenberg attract hikers and mountain climbers. South-West Pfalz District has varieties of educational and vocational educational resources. Pirmasesns and Zweibrücken Campus of Kaiserslautern University of Applied Sciences is the only institution of higher education within South-West District. In addition, a number of liberal arts high schools, real schools, comprehensive schools and vocational schools offer more choices and development direction to the young people.
