Wujiang Silk Culture Exhibition Hall lies in the Xiancan Temple in Shengze, with a floor area of 320 square meters and the display area of 1,200 square meters. The Exhibition Hall is divided into three parts: history, clothing the world and silk culture. The total investment reaches 1.3 million yuan. There are 120 pictures and 102 pieces of objects on display, most of which are characterized by national silk industry, including 37 pieces of silk weaving tools, 25 pieces of assemblies, trademarks and account books, 39 pieces of silk clothing and 9 seals of major silk stores. Eight associations (referring to chambers of commerce set up by out-of-town businessmen) in Shengze from the Daoguang reign (1821-1850) to the Republic of China, such as silk looms, rolling vehicles, silk reeling vehicles, pattern board machines, jacquard faucets and press stools, are of educational value. Silk culture and “trend and convention” demonstrates folk entertainment, sericulture customs and genre painting related to silk textile industry. The Exhibition Hall is a patriotism education base of Wujiang District. In 2009, the Xiancan Temple (Wujiang Silk Historical Exhibition Hall) was named as the third batch of Non-material Cultural Heritage Protection Demonstration Bases in Suzhou by the Suzhou Bureau of Culture, Broadcasting, Television, Press and Publication.
