Huihui, a premature baby born with syphilis, was abandoned at birth by his parents. He was weak and dying when he was sent to Wujiang Social Welfare Center. The staff members of the center fed him imported milk powder and cared for him carefully. Being treated and cured of syphilis, Huihui grew up healthily. After failed attempts to find a domestic adoptive family, the center found him an adoptive family in the United States in 2014. Huihui now is deeply loved and well cared for in his lovely home.
Xiaomei, a girl born without fingers and toes, was given up by her parents at birth and sent to Wujiang Social Welfare Center. As she grew older, she felt sad about her physical deformities. The workers of the center always encouraged her to be brave and strong and managed to find her an adoptive family abroad when she was 11 years old.
When she was told she was going to have adoptive parents in the United States, Xiaomei got excited at first and then somewhat anxious about going to live in a strange place. She was afraid that she could not adapt to her new life after being adopted abroad and that she could not understand English well. When going through relevant procedures in Nanjing, Xiaomei told the director of the center on the phone that she was so worried and scared that she cried for hours. She said that she did not want to be adopted by the American family as she heard a rumor that parents there would force their children leave home when they reach 18. She also told the director that she’s afraid that she could not get used to the Western food or learn English well. The director patiently comforted her, telling her a lot about the life abroad and assuring her that her caregivers in the center would keep in touch with her and give her support at any time.
Now Xiaomei lives happily in a loving family. Her adoptive parents regularly update the welfare center on her growth with her recent photos. Xiaomei herself often chats with her friends and workers in the center on QQ, asking after them and talking about her life in the US. Now she can speak fluent English and has become more self-confident. She always gives support and encouragement to other children in the welfare center who will be adopted abroad.
