The 33rd “Tongli Cup” Chinese Tianyuan Title Tournament Final took place in Tongli on Apr. 13. Liu Wei, member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Wujiang District Committee and director of the Publicity Department of the CPC Wujiang District Committee, attended the opening ceremony.
This year’s Tianyuan Title Tournament started with 32 players at the Chinese Chess Academy in Beijing on Jan. 4. After taking part in 5 rounds of competition, the winner Fan Yunruo (an 8th-dan player) became the challenger to face Lian Xiao (a 9th-dan player), the titleholder of the last two sessions.
It was the first time for Fan Yunruo to become the challenger in a title match. The 23-year-old, who continued to perform outstandingly well, defeated Lian Xiao at the 204th move in the three-part match and won the Tianyuan title.
