Xin Changxing, secretary of the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee, inspected Suzhou from February 1 to 2. He stressed the need to thoroughly implement the spirit of the 20th CPC National Congress and the important instructions of General Secretary Xi Jinping, fully and faithfully apply the new development philosophy, play a greater role in building a new development pattern, remain at the forefront of the times, and strive to be the pioneer in advancing and expanding Chinese modernization.
The demonstration zone of green and integrated ecological development of the Yangtze River Delta (YRD) region at the junction of Shanghai Municipality, Jiangsu Province and Zhejiang Province is of pioneering significance for the implementation of the national strategy of promoting the integrated development of the YRD region. Xin Changxing paid a visit to the demonstration zone’s exhibition hall to learn more about the planning and development of the demonstration zone. He urged local authorities to focus on the key words of integration and high quality, support Shanghai to give full play to its leading role, and work closely together to write a new chapter in the integrated development of the YRD region. As the first project for coordinated governance of the transboundary rivers and lakes in the demonstration zone, the Yuandang Lake ecological restoration and shoreline connection project which connects West Shanghai’s Qingpu District ad South Suzhou’s Wujiang District has achieved remarkable results. Xin Changxing inspected the project and urged giving priority to ecological and green development to build the demonstration zone into a great place to live, work and travel in, where people can fully enjoy the beauty of nature and ecology.
The Suzhou Industrial Park (SIP) is the first government-to-government cooperation project between China and Singapore. It has ranked first for 7 consecutive years in the comprehensive evaluation of national economic development zones. Xin Changxing went to the SIP exhibition center to learn in detail about the development of the park and the construction of the Suzhou Area of the China (Jiangsu) Pilot Free Trade Zone. He underscored the importance of making long-term development plans and accelerating the building of SIP into a world-class high-tech park whose experiences and achievements could be copied to other places.
Innovation is the primary driving force for development. During his visit to the Suzhou Laboratory in SIP, Xin Changxing stressed the need to adhere to the unified design of original innovation, integrated innovation and open innovation to ensure that they are well coordinated, to realize the unified deployment of innovation, industrial and talent chains so that they can be deeply integrated, and to achieve greater self-reliance and self-improvement in science and technology. At the Yangcheng Lake Cross-Strait Scientific Innovation Center, he had in-depth communication with scientific and technological workers, encouraging them to strengthen basic research, deepen industry-university-research cooperation to generate world-class innovation, foster new growth areas and seek new driving forces for the economy.
Enterprises are the main force to promote high-quality development. Xin Changxing paid visits to a couple of leading enterprises in Suzhou. He praised Hengli Group for its contribution to the real economy and expressed hope that the company can strengthen confidence and enhance its competitiveness in the global market. He encouraged Innovent Biologics (Suzhou) Co., Ltd, which is a leading biopharmaceutical company, to further its efforts in innovation and develop more high-quality biopharmaceuticals that are affordable to ordinary people. At Nanpao Resins (China) Co., Ltd, which is a Taiwan-funded enterprise, Xin Changxing extended sincere gratitude to Taiwan businessmen and enterprises for their contribution to the development of Jiangsu Province and pointed out that we will firmly uphold the concept that both sides of the Taiwan Strait are of one family and continue to promote economic integration that will bring mutual benefits and win-win results for Jiangsu and Taiwan, so as to improve the well-being of compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Straits. During his visits, Xin also learned in detail about the difficulties the enterprises have encountered in their development. We shall be firm in consolidating and developing the public sector of the economy and shall remain steadfast in encouraging, supporting, and guiding the development of the non-public sector, he said, calling for greater efforts to further optimize the business environment.
Xin Changxing also went to the Pingjiang Road Historical Block, where he visited the ancient city preservation exhibition hall, embroidery workshops and traditional residences to learn more about efforts in promoting the protection and inheritance of cultural heritage and the development of cultural tourism. He called for meticulous efforts to promote the protection of the ancient city, which is an indispensible part of Suzhou, to offer a fascinating mix of old and new. During his visit to Zhenze ancient town, he talked cordially with craftsmen and urging efforts to protect its buildings, streets and water systems and carry forward the excellent traditional culture.
