【Legal Basis】Exit and Entry Administration Law of the People’s Republic of China, Regulations of the People’s Republic of China on Administration of the Entry and Exit of Foreigners
【Application Procedures】1. Dealt with by the Exit and Entry Administration Brigade of the Public Security Bureau of Wujiang District; 2. Examined, approved, and issued by the Exit and Entry Administration Brigade of the Public Security Bureau of Wujiang District as an entrusted organ.
【Application Eligibility】Foreigners who come to Wujiang District for commercial trade activities with an M visa can apply for extension of the stay permit, if they need to stay after the expiry of the duration specified in the visa as their original purpose of visit has not been accomplished.
【Application Documents】
1. The original valid passport
2. A completed Visa/Stay Permit/Residence Permit Application Form (in black ink or sign pen)
3. Two recently-taken, two-inch, half-length, bareheaded and full-faced color photos (by the standard of the Guidelines For Travel Documents Photographs)
4. A proof letter from the inviting entity or individual (The letter shall contain: information of the inviting entity or individual; information of the applicant, passport number and validity period, valid visa number, visa type, duration of stay, date and port of entry, present address in China, purpose of visit, reasons for application and duration of extension, commitment of inviting entity, etc. As for inviting entity, the official stamp is required; as for inviting individual, the signature, identity card number, date, and telephone number of the inviting entity or individual should be noted.)
5. The latest valid Registration Form of Temporary Residence
6. Copies of the data page, valid M visa page and the page stamped for the latest entry of the applicant’s passport (The originals shall be checked)
7. As for inviting entity, copies of the valid business license or related registration certificate (those without a unified social credit code shall provide the organization code certificate), the approval certificate (such as approval certificate of sole foreign investment enterprises, Sino-foreign joint equity enterprises and Sino-foreign co-operative enterprises) or recordation certificate of an incorporation in special industries (The copies shall be submitted, and the originals be checked.); As for inviting individuals, the local permanent residence certificate or proof of actual residence and identity card (The copies shall be submitted, and the originals be checked.)
8. Other documents asked by the exit and entry administration authority of the public security organ (e.g. documents for bilateral business and trade exchanges, invitation letter for entry visa)

1. Applicants who enter China for first time or have a bad record of stay or residence in China must apply for visa extension in person.
2. The applicant’s passport has sufficient validity period for extension and blank visa pages.
3. Please make an application 7 days prior to the expiry of the duration specified in the visa.
4. The extension of the duration of stay specified in a visa is only valid for the current entry, and the total period of extension shall not exceed the original duration of stay specified in the visa. According to the circumstances, the exit and entry administration department decides whether to approve the application and the duration of extension. Foreigners with an M visa shall not be allowed to work in China.
5. According to the Nationality Law of China, those who have lost Chinese nationality yet the Chinese household registration has not been canceled are required to cancel the registration first, and submit the cancellation certificate issued by relevant police station, if necessary. An application made by a person identified as Chinese under the Nationality Law of China shall not be accepted.
6. Please be cautious of the following circumstances, the consequence of which should be answered for by the applicant and the employing entity:
(1) Rejection of the application of the residence permit where the applicant fails to provide qualified passport, photo or corresponding application materials;
(2) Rejection of the application of the residence permit where the applicant fails to fill in the Visa/Stay Permit/Residence Permit Application Form completely or accurately.
7. Where the exit and entry administration authority of the public security organ requires investigation and verification, the relevant units or individuals shall cooperative. Where the applicant or any relevant entity or individual fails to accept an interview or submit supplementary materials within the stipulated time without proper reasons, the application shall be subject to revocation or refusal.
